SOPHIE POWERS GETS IN OUR HEADS WITH NEW SINGLE “HEAD EMPTY NO THOUGHTS”
Sophie Powers is back, taking the hyperpop world by storm with new single “head empty no thoughts”, released on June 20. Powers, a Canadian born singer-songwriter, steps into a fresh era with a brand new look — edgy and dark, accompanied by defiant lyrics. Known for her previous bright and colorful aesthetic, Powers is pushing her personal boundaries and taking an experimental direction for her new sound.
Coming off of her previous collaboration “XO,” the new powerhouse track “head empty no thoughts” takes the audience through Powers’ experiences with “airheaded” romances. Sitting beautifully on top of the striking hyperpop instrumentals, Powers’ vocals are all about her familiarity with dating people who are simple-minded, and emphasizes listeners to know their worth.

“Head empty, no thoughts / Yeah, there’s nothing in my brain / You got no shot / Unless you come with shit to say / Such a turn-off / If you can’t pick up my pace / I’ll be running ‘round in circles tryna dodge a second date,” Powers sings at the beginning of the song, setting the scene of the track for how she feels in these draining situations with seeing new people. She connects to the audience by sharing her struggles with modern-day dating, sympathizing with the audience over what it is like to date in a world of dating apps and immature individuals.
She closes out the song with a whisper-like vocal interlude, asking the potential suitor if they were looking to seek out a fragile, innocent woman to settle down with. Powers then follows this interlude with a Siri-like voice, stating that she was, in fact, not that girl. This further supports Powers’ message of the song to know your personal worth and not bother with those who do not uplift you. Following the interlude, the song concludes with a final repeat of the chorus and the high-energy instrumentals that her songs are known for.
Following the release of the new single, fans of Powers anticipate what is next and look forward to hearing where her creativity takes her.
