MEET LEITH ROSS: 1824° PRESS CONFERENCE

Canadian indie-folk artist Leith Ross has become one of the most intimate and honest voices of the generation. Most known for their hit song “We’ll Never Have Sex,” Ross began writing songs as a pre-teen and developed her sound around honesty, community and vulnerable lyrics. Since they were young, music has been part of their being. Debuting in 2020, their EP Motherwell was recorded in DIY fashion, full of bedroom-pop vibes. Since then, a global audience began tuning in and their song became an anthem in the sapphic community.

Their music continues to expand in scope while still staying true to their character. Their new album, I Can See The Future, is starting a new chapter full of dreamy pop and still holding that intimate quality that is mastered in their production. With an accompanying tour starting this October, Ross is set to bring her performance to a live setting, starting in her hometown of Winnipeg.

At a virtual press conference hosted by 1824°, Ross was joined with Crave Music Magazine and multiple other media outlets for a chance to ask their burning questions about all things new and interesting. From being a community member and advocate to staying true to themselves, every media outlet had amazing, thoughtful questions for the artist. When I asked about balancing personal writing and cultural responsibility in the LGBTQ+ community, they answered with their signature gratefulness.

“I think what I've concentrated on is just trying to write songs as honestly as possible from my own perspective,” Ross said. “Aside from accepting my general responsibility as a human being, to care about things and advocate for things that matter and talk about things that matter is just to generally be a good community member and person.”

For Ross, queerness is more than just an identity, it's a world view. Rather than aiming to provide a single perspective, they present their work like an invite to those who have never heard it before. Their newest album, released September 19, encapsulates all the best parts of sincerity with lush, playful sounds on the forefront. Immediate favorites from this new release are “Stay,” “Grieving” and “(I Can See) The Future.”

Leith Ross is that honest, vulnerable voice in music; they don’t hold back. With I Can See The Future out now, the future is certainly extremely bright!
