Honey Revenge Takes a Fearless “Risk” With New Single
Honey Revenge has always been known for their upbeat instrumentals and distinct aesthetic, and they’ve taken their sound to the next level with brand new single, “Risk,” released on May 23. This dynamic track is all about embracing the unpredictability of life and going wherever it takes you.
Making their debut in Los Angeles in 2021, Honey Revenge consists of vocalist Devin Papadol and guitarist Donny Lloyd. Before Honey Revenge was formed, Papadol was a member of a 5-piece group formed with friends from a musical institute in California. The group eventually went separate ways following the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving Papadol and Lloyd to form Honey Revenge. Today, they are stepping into a fresh era, introducing it with the new track “Risk”.
Throughout their career, Honey Revenge has held a consistent color theme — bold pink and purple. For this new era, the colors hold the same boldness that is intertwined throughout “Risk”. Lyrically, this song speaks to the journey of life — using fiery vocals and bold imagery to encourage listeners to live life to the fullest.
“Cause and effect / Whatever happens next / We don’t get to know / We’ll go with the flow,” Papadol sings in the pre-chorus, embracing the idea of letting life progress without bounds or fear.
Connecting to the lyrics, this track is accompanied by a groovy rock instrumental — exuding a strong sense of power and confidence. Following the second chorus, the guitar instrumental stands out, allowing Lloyd to take center stage. This track repeats the solo, closing out the track on a high-note.
The music video features Papadol alongside Lloyd in a casino, pulling off adrenaline-pumping stunts on motorcycles in the desert. Much like the lyrics, the imagery of the duo in the casino embraces the concept of gambling with life, rejecting uncertainty and not letting it stop you — something that is so meaningful to the band.
“This track is so important because it's me trying to shake that fear and try something different. If you never take a chance you may never discover your full potential,” Papdol shared in a heartfelt Instagram post. She reiterates the message of the song, and encourages listeners to not be controlled by the fear of the unknown. Her words inspire the listener to step out of their comfort zone and “reinvent the wheel” of where life is going to take them. This teaches the listener to embrace change, and allow life’s journey to let them discover something new about themselves that was hidden under the fear of the unknown.
“Risk” marks the start of their upcoming new era, and Honey Revenge took a leap of faith of their own in discovering a fresh, mature sound — much different from their previous 2023 album Retrovision — and it works so well.
Honey Revenge is currently on the road on their “Losing and Loving Tour”, featuring sets from openers Daisy Grenade, Nightlife, Wolf and Bear, and Vana across North America, spanning this summer. The band will also be playing the 2025 revival of the Vans Warped Tour.
