PAPERWHITE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO GIVE THE AUDIENCE ‘THAT FEELING’
It’s easy to see the growth and hit potential in Paperwhite’s new single “This Feeling” released on May 30. An exciting mix of hyper-synths and intentional pauses and space, this new track will make anyone an instant fan of the duo. Following “By Your Side”, which Crave Music Magazine reviewed here, “This Feeling” keeps amping up the energy the previous singles have successfully helped curate.
After over a decade of being a powerful duo and recently off of a short hiatus, Paperwhite aren’t slowing down any time soon. Siblings Katie and Ben Marshall released “This Feeling” on Friday. “This Feeling” was released just after “By Your Side,” and “Unfold,” which could hint towards a new collection of music from this band.
“This Feeling” is a dreamy song, with whimsical, pulsing beats to entrance the listener. Each sound and word is intentional and layered to create what can only be described as “This Feeling” — one that feels fantastical and unique, a slow build up. Paired with Katie Marshall’s alluring vocals, the track is a mystical creation.
The repetition of lines in this song help with the build-up towards an incredible musical release. “I get this feeling,” is repeated multiple times throughout the track, leading towards the burst of sound. There’s a perfect balance between the vocals and the music, with Paperwhite going back-and-forth between each element, letting them shine and be their own center-focus of the track.

“Nothing looks the way I thought it would / Is this real life? / It breaks my heart knowing there’s so much good / but it’s hard to find,” Katie Marshall sings in the introduction of “This Feeling.”
The lines in the beginning help support that dreamlike feeling the rest of the song creates and immerses listeners in so well. The lyrics are an important part of developing the vibe of the song as a whole, and Paperwhite has done it beautifully
