DRED BUFFALO GETS WICKED IN DEBUT EP
After making their mark in the New England music scene playing local shows and festivals, Dred Buffalo have finally released their debut self-titled EP. This collection of five songs are the heart and soul of the rock-and-roll duo, a seamless combination of ‘70’s rock with a modern retro spin.
Formed in 2022 by Alerisa Rose and Chase Cavacco, Dred Buffalo began to capture the hearts of many in the Southern New England area through their youthful and modern approach to the retro rock-and-roll sound. Releasing their first ever single “M.O.A.R” in 2023, the duo’s artistry soared in this electric and powerful track with Rose’s vocals stepping into center stage. Over the course of the next few years, the band continued to release new music, eventually earning themselves a nomination for “Rising Star: Massachusetts” in the 2025 New England Music Awards.
Each track on the EP has its own distinct sound, but nonetheless sharing a similar essence that makes Dred Buffalo’s sound uniquely theirs. Sparking the start of the album off with the track “New Disease,” drummer Cavacco’s electrifying guitar skills open up the song, creating a captivating backbone for Rose’s angry vocals. Carrying the similar bluesy instrumentals as the last track, “Everything You Say” allows Cavacco to shine in a guitar solo, Rose’s vocals fading beautifully as the song concludes.
Slowing the tempo and introducing pop-like elements, “Runaway Girl” stands as the third track on the EP. This song lets Rose promote a different tone with her vocals, switching her usual strong and angry vocals to smooth lower ones and allowing her to showcase her vocal range that leaves listeners hooked.
“When you try to make a move / I’ll be running from you / But I want to be devoured,”
Rose sings in the pre-chorus of “Prey,” beautifully capturing the content of the song.

Utilizing both vocal styles, “Prey” starts off with a slower tempo and softer vocals, eventually building up to the powerful stylings of the chorus. Rose expresses the push and pull of a relationship: yearning and dreading simultaneously. This progression repeats throughout the song, capturing the essence of the title and the lyrics — like a predator chasing its prey. Closing out the EP, “Trippin’ Over Shadows” returns to the classical retro-like tune of the band’s previous tracks.
Across the five tracks, Dred Buffalo conveys messages of desire, hatred, and pure angst. As the leaves begin to fall, the EP Dred Buffalo makes its declaration as a must-listen while soaking up the last of the warm weather and creating the perfect New England autumn.
