CHASE PETRA RELEASE PLAYFUL TAKE ON THE PRESSURES OF BEING ‘FAMOUS’ WITH FUN NEW SINGLE
Have you ever wanted to be famous “like really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad”? Chase Petra is back to let you know you’re not alone in this sentiment. Consisting of vocalist Hunter Allen, drummer Evan Schaid and bassist Brooke Dickson, the Long Beach, CA trio grapples with the debilitating reality of chasing your dreams on their latest single “Famous” featuring Sweet Pill’s Zayna Youssef.
Earlier this year, Chase Petra released their unfiltered, heartfelt sophomore album Lullabies For Dogs, which explores jealousy, betrayal and the ache of growing up while navigating adulthood. The trio then returned in late July with “We Were Friends,” a gut-wrenching effort filled with nostalgia for a past relationship that served as the first of these two additional singles.

“Famous” is a juxtaposition of the desperation and distaste surrounding fame and external validation. The group both critiques and relates to the burden of success with their signature quarter-life-crisis rock flair. The release was also accompanied by a fun music video directed by Jake Allyn that cuts between the band walking through the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Allen getting a “Famous” tattoo on their lower back.
Between the track’s blistering guitar riffs, fluttering rhythm and Allen’s introspective lyricism, “Famous” is a brutally honest representation of being plagued by the obsession with making it big. While this phenomenon is put on blast throughout the song, Allen also admits to falling for the promise of fame and glory just like everyone else. They light-heartedly showcase this sense of self-awareness as they sing,
“And I'm not special for wanting what everybody else wants, and / I think I'm guilty of thinking celebrity cures everything.”
Youssef strongly jumps in on the second verse, unpacking the harsh truth behind realizing you're stuck in this desperate cycle of being hungry for recognition no matter the cost. She adds her own touch to the track as she passionately sings,
“In the form of a melody, I'm becoming robotic / A product / But I keep going / All I have 'cause I really, really want it bad.”
The contrast between these two points of view makes “Famous” a strikingly resonant track for anyone who’s ever craved success, whether in the music industry or beyond.
A special vinyl pressing of “We Were Friends” and “Famous” is available for purchase here.
